MASHANTUCKET, Conn. (AP) — Yes started their first show since the death of bassist Chris Squire with a tribute to him. Rolling Stone reports their concert on Friday in Mashantucket, Connecticut, began with a dark stage and a single spotlight on Squire’s signature white Rickenbacker bass. Photos of Squire played on a screen while Squire’s song “Onward” played. According to the report, “Grown men wept aloud.” The band then took the stage and kicked off the show with “Don’t Kill The Whale.”
“American Horror Story” Creator Gives Dish On Lady Gaga Character
BEVERLY HILLS, Calif. (AP) — Lady Gaga will play a hotel owner named Elizabeth in the next season of “American Horror Story: Hotel.” Series co-creator Ryan Murphy told journalists Friday that Lady Gaga’s character will be consumed with art and fashion, and she has “a nefarious plan” that will be revealed in the first episode that will play out for the rest of the season. He says Lady Gaga will start shooting her parts today.
Bob Dylan’s Guitar Returns To The Newport Folk Festival
NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — The guitar Bob Dylan used when he “went electric” at the Newport Folk Festival 50 years ago was at the festival again this weekend. Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay bought the Fender Stratocaster in 2013 for $965,000, the most expensive guitar ever sold at auction. The curator of Irsay’s rare guitar collection brought it to the festival this weekend. It has not been played in public in 50 years. Al Kooper, who performed on July 25, 1965, with Dylan, was among those who played yesterday. Others included David Rawlings, the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Hozier.

Gregg And Duane Allman’s Mother Dies
DAYTONA BEACH SHORES, Fla. (AP) — The mother of the Allman brothers has died. Gregg Allman’s publicist says Geraldine Allman died outside Daytona Beach, Florida, on Sunday of natural causes. She was 98. Gregg Allman credits his mother with helping him buy his first guitar. Duane Allman died in 1971.
Bono Pushes For Vision Care For The Underprivileged
NEW YORK (AP) — Bono’s latest cause is to help the poor to see. Bono has teamed with eyewear brand Revo to raise $10 million for screenings, eyeglasses and other assistance to the poor. Revo will donate $10 from each pair of glasses it sells. Bono will create a line of Revo sunglasses for release in the fall. Bono has glaucoma and says his eyesight is OK, but millions of people with poor vision around the world don’t have access to glasses or even a basic eye test.
American Book Awards Selects Carlos Santana’s Memoir
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Carlos Santana’s autobiography has won a major publishing award. “The Universal Tone: Bringing My Story To Light” has won an American Book Award. Santana will be recognized at a ceremony in San Francisco on October 25.
Grateful Dead Set Records With Fare Thee Well Concerts
CHICAGO (AP) — The Grateful Dead’s five farewell shows have made some serious money. Billboard magazine reports the three concerts in Chicago and two in Santa Clara, California, this month brought in $52.2 million. The concerts also set a record as the biggest pay-per-view event of all time. Broadcast producer Live Alliance says the “Fare Thee Well” shows had more than 400,000 subscriptions and online streams. That number will likely grow because the shows are still available until August 2.
